in collaboration with Landkunstleben e.V.
Brandenburg, Germany – October 2015

“Zugvögel” is a B.Y.O.L. (Bring Your Own Language) workshop, meaning that the participants (refugee and local children) were asked to speak their native language. Despite the lack of an official language code, the participants managed to improvise new ways of understanding, under the guidance of the facilitators, by setting the emphasis on non-verbal communication and the semiology of environmental sounds. The workshop was facilitated by the Berlin-based sound artist Knut Remond, who used recordings of the workshop to create the sound piece ‘UNLIMITED’. The sound piece was presented to the public, in the Ohrenhoch – der Geräuschladen (sound gallery in Berlin) on the 15 November 2015.
